Tech Start – launching careers in space, defence and technology with the Modis Tech Academy.

Modis Tech Academy, in collaboration with Microsoft Australia, brings you the Tech Start program!

Designed specifically for and with the South Australian space, defence and technology industry, Tech Start helps South Australian women gain industry recognised micro-credentials, professional mentoring and career development support.

Tech Start will provide the connections, pathways and confidence to help women pursue a career in an exciting and growing space and defence industry.

Our goal for the Tech Start program is to support you to acquire the skills and credentials necessary to step into entry level data analyst, Microsoft Dynamics 365, cyber security, cloud or software development roles. All of these roles have been identified as entry level roles across the space, defence and technology sector.

My experience at the Tech Academy was constantly supported by industry experts, who cared about my career growth and development. Besides the learnings and project work, I made strong friendships, built meaningful connections and found incredible mentors. The program provided real practical work experience that helped me start my career as a Data Analyst.

Who is involved?

The Modis Tech Academy is working with Microsoft Australia, the Government of South Australia, education and industry partners to bring this program to women in South Australia.

Education partners include the University of South Australia and TAFE SA and industry partners include Avanade, Innovor and more.

Who is the program for?

The Tech Start program is open to ANY woman interested in a career in IT, in particular, data analytics, Microsoft Dynamics 365, cyber security, cloud, software development – not just STEM graduates. Regardless of your academic and work background, this program will provide training and practical experience.

There are very limited opportunities available and the application process will be competitive. To put your best foot forward, we are looking for candidates that can demonstrate the following:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Creativity and commitment in solving problems;
  • A genuine interest in data analytics and South Australia’s high-tech industries;
  • The ability to commit to a ten-week, part time course.

To create a more diverse pipeline of talent, the Tech Start pilot program will focus on supporting women however we hope to bring Tech Start to all South Australians interested in a career in space, defence and tech.

Please note, applicants must be over the age of 18 and an Australian citizen, permanent resident or hold full working rights in Australia.

What you will get

Upon successful completion, you will emerge from this program with:

  • Two Microsoft certifications, valued at $5,000
  • Practical work integrated learning, connecting with a leading space and technology company in South Australia
  • New industry contacts and mentoring opportunities
  • Practical support to help land your next role

Content of the program

The 10-week part time (20 hours/week) program will provide women with both technical and professional skills. The program is divided into three modules:

  1. Industry recognized certifications
  2. Experiential learning project with an industry partner
  3. Personalised career development, delivered by experts

In addition, participants will have the opportunity to access exclusive industry and career talks.

Tech Start enrolment requirements:

  • After applicants have submitted their application and CV, they will be required to complete an assessment. Please note that completing these steps will not guarantee a place in the Tech Start program.
  • For each week of the program, Students are required to commit to a minimum of 20 hours of study which includes attending one day of LIVE instructor-led training each week. 

What is the cost?

FREE – The 10-week program will be delivered at no cost to the student.
